Welcome
Let’s get to know each other before we talk about craft and what I think it means across time.
Felipe is my name and like many computer programmers I grew up during a period of many firsts. First home computer, gaming console, internet service, mobile phone, … you get the picture. Most if not all of us are creators by nature; we create stories, games, or the catch all term – content! For me computers gave me the tools to reach more than a few friends and create worlds that even limited early on felt vibrant and immersive. During the late 80s and 90s there weren’t many books on how to do many of the things, but the instructions manual served as excellent source to get creating. The rest was supplemented with experimentation and stubbornly trying code, graphics, algorithms to keep pushing forward. As book started appearing with trade secrets and many how-tos those became gold. They were not magical, you still had to type and work through the many fun and frustrating aspects of missing something, bad printing, or typos that cause the game not to work. I wholeheartedly believe craft or craftmanship is being able to enjoy the process of creating while also enjoying those tiny frustrations that by its very nature make it fun.
This corner is all about my craft, your craft, and why I think is important now more than ever to keep the fire of curiosity alive. With the progress of AI is easy to delegate and not give a second though to many things. But my thesis is simple: AI will not usher us forward into more discoveries, with the right mindset our evolving creativity will be what gets us there.
This blog is about feeding creativity and how we can find the best sources of food we can find. I believe creativity is fed with skill and skill with craftmanship attitude. Let’s do alchemy together to keep creativity burning brighter than any one discovery.
